What We Got Up To While HBC Was on a Break
August is usually a quieter month for Harborne Book Club as we take a break from our regular monthly meeting, giving everyone the chance to enjoy the summer. We did have a little summer social this summer as we met uo at The Plough for drinks and chatting!
However, taking a break from meetings doesn't mean taking a break from reading!
This summer, our HBC members have been busy reading and exploring on their holidays. We asked members to share what they’d been getting up to:
Books in Florence
One of our members discovered Giunti Odeon in Florence which is a rather interesting combination of bookshop and cinema in a beautiful historic building.
A literary trail around Birmingham
Closer to home, members explored Birmingham's Snoopy Trail put on by Birmingham’s Central BID. It was another excuse to get outside and enjoy a bit of storytelling and nostalgia along the way.
Libraries worth travelling for
One of the highlights shared with us was a visit to the library at Santa Ana Cathedral. For book lovers, stumbling across a beautiful library while travelling is always going to be a highlight.
Books at Boardmasters
Books also made an appearance at Boardmasters Festival, where The Wandering Chapter brought some bookish joy to the festival.
Book Bonanza in Birmingham
And, of course, we couldn't have a summer of HBC adventures without a proper mooch!
We headed to Book Bonanza in Birmingham for a good old snoop around the stalls.

Our August break has given us a chance to slow down a little, but it's also been lovely to see how our community continues to engage with books outside of our usual meetings.
Whether you've been reading by a pool, hunting for books abroad, visiting libraries, exploring Birmingham, finding unexpected bookshops at festivals or simply curled up at home with a good book, we hope you've had a brilliant summer.
And now, we're ready to get back to it.
